A community fashion show for kids where stories are told in different colours and patterns. Come March 29, 2026, the change begins, and the streets of Kaduna become a stage where children take the lead.
ABOUT RUNWAY FOR CHANGE
Runway for Change is a creative advocacy project that uses fashion shows and art exhibitions as a public platform for child-rights advocacy, where children become creative advocates and influencers of their own future, share their stories, and envision a safer and more inclusive society. It is a fashion show for kids that transforms streets, public schools, slums, and open community spaces into platforms for creative expression, talent shows and visibility for vulnerable and marginalised children.
Our runway is about giving children a voice, building their agency, and sparking community conversations around children’s rights and protection, human dignity, and shared responsibility.
Through a combination of fashion modelling, creative arts, storytelling, fashion design, and public dialogue, we turn each runway into a space where children are not just models, they are designers, storytellers, debaters, spoken word artists, dancers, talk show hosts, photographers, and changemakers.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE
The first edition of Runway for Change invites teenagers from 13 to 18 who are currently enrolled as apprentices in a local tailor shop to reuse fabric offcuts from their boss’s shop by creating colourful, beautiful, and creative clothes for children. Each design created will be featured on the runway and modelled by kids, especially street children in Kaduna. The Top five designers go home with access to mentorship from Mendaya Circular Design Hub and a gift of a sewing machine and sewing tools that can help them start their design journey after completing their apprenticeship.Â
Runway for Change is open to all vulnerable and marginalised children and teenagers who want to share their stories, express their creativity and talent through debates, spoken words, life talk show, dance, comedy, fashion modelling, design, arts exhibition, and photography. It is also open to community members, parents, schools, teachers, and local tailors. Everyone attends as an equal, and everyone has a role.
